Session 2: Facilitation Jam

Session Overview

  • Goal:

To practice co-leading short, interactive sessions using the Serenity content and peer learning methods.

  • Focus:

    Co-facilitation | Peer feedback | Collaborative learning

  • Outcome:

Participants will strengthen facilitation skills, adaptability, and teamwork while learning to guide others in digital well-being discussions.

Why This Session Matters

Facilitation is how we turn ideas into shared experiences.

It’s about creating safe spaces for dialogue and connection.

Through peer facilitation, we learn to teach, listen, and grow together.

“Facilitation is not about control, it’s about connection.”

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Plan and deliver short digital well-being activities.
  • Use inclusive facilitation techniques.
  • Offer and receive constructive peer feedback.
  • Reflect on strengths and areas to improve as facilitators.

Why It  What Is a Facilitation Jam?

A Facilitation Jam is a hands-on session where everyone gets to practice leading.

You design a mini activity (5–7 minutes).
100%
You co-lead it with your group.
100%
You observe, participate, and reflect on what works.
100%

Think of it as your safe rehearsal space, a lab for creative facilitation!

Plan Your Mini-Session

In small groups, choose one digital well-being theme (e.g., screen balance, empathy online, or online safety).

Include:

 1️⃣ A short introduction (1 minute)

2️⃣ The main activity (5 minutes)

3️⃣ A short reflection or debrief (1 minute)

🕒 Time: 20–25 minutes to plan.

Lead Your Session

Take turns leading your mini-activity with your peers as participants.

Everyone should co-facilitate or support.

Remember to:

  • Set a positive tone.
  • Be inclusive.
  • Manage time gently but clearly.
  • Reflect the spirit of digital well-being.

Peer Feedback

After each group leads:

Peers give feedback using 3 simple prompts:

  • What worked well?
  • What could be improved?
  • How did it feel as a participant?

You have 20 minutes to plan your campaign. Be creative!

Reflection & Discussion

How did it feel to lead vs. participate?

What facilitation techniques were most effective?

What challenges did you notice?

How can you keep building your facilitation confidence?

Grow Your Skills Tree

Roots:  What values drive your facilitation?

Trunk: What is your biggest strength?

Branches: What new ideas will you try next time?

Leaves: What kind of facilitator do you want to become?

My Reflection

Write down:

Two facilitation strengths you demonstrated today.

One skill you want to improve.

One action you’ll take next time you lead a session.
